Dunn's two home runs powers Berlin Little League 11s past Orange

Locals score five runs in the first inning to avoid elimination.

Kevin Dunn hit a solo home run and a grand slam homer to power the Berlin Little League 11-year old all-stars to an 11-4 victory over Orange in the State Sectionals in Milford.

This marks the fifth straight elimination game in district and sectional play that Berlin has won.

After losing its first game of the tournament to Fairfield last night, Berlin came out and pounced on Orange and eliminated them from the tournament. Berlin scored five runs in the top of the first inning to take control of the game.

Tyler Lappe threw five solid innings on the mound for Berlin while Jeff Kuzoian relieved in the sixth inning.

"The kids came ready to play today," Berlin coach Lenny Tubbs said. "From the time they got to the field I knew they were ready. You couldn't ask for a better start than scoring those five runs to take the lead."

Berlin led 5-0 but Orange closed to within 7-4. That's when Dunn hammered the second of his two home runs, a grand slam, to provide the final margin of the game, 11-4.

Zach Murray, Kuzoian, Giancarlo Tufano, Tyler Tralli and Lappe also hit well for the winners.

Berlin next plays the loser of the Wilton-Fairfield game on Sunday. Both teams are 1-0. If they can win that game it will put them in the finals where they will need to beat the lone unbeaten team left in the Sectional to win the title.
