Edgewood Leaves No Doubt In Winning District 5 Title Over Berlin, 13-3
Bristol team takes 12-0 lead after two innings and never looks back.
The Berlin Little League 12-year olds knew they had a big task in front of them.
They would have to beat a talented Edgewood team, not once, but twice to win the District 5 championship and advance to the State Sectionals.Â
Edgewood came ready to play and left no doubt who the district champ would be Sunday at Southington's Recreation Park.Â
Edgewood jumped out to a 12-0 lead after two innings and went on to a 13-3 mercy rule victory over Berlin.Â
Berlin hadn't been behind much during the tournament but into a huge hole early against the talented and fundamentally sound Edgewood team.Â
The locals closed the gap to 12-3 on a home run by Kyle Hyde, who had five home runs in the tournament.Â
Berlin could not mount a further comeback because Edgewood was able to close out the victory when the 13th run scored on a wild pitch.Â
Berlin went unbeaten through pool play. They then beat New Britain in the first round of the crossover but lost to Edgewood 7-6 in the winners bracket game. Berlin came back to beat New Britain 12-2 to get another shot at Edgewood but it was not meant to be.
