House Fire Displaces Family at Height of Blizzard

Right at the height of the Blizzard of 2010, at 1 a.m. early Monday morning, a structure fire at 4 Lower Lane was reported.

One unit was gutted by the fire while the other unit had extensive water damage. 

One victim of the fire suffered burns and was transported to Hartford Hospital with burns to hands and arms and possible smoke inhalation. 

Other tenants were transported to Senior Center where the town had established a shelter for them. 

The near whiteout conditions made things difficult for the firefighters trying to knock down the blaze.

All four town fire units responded to the fire. When they arrived one of the four units was fully-involved. There was also an electric wire sparking on the ground which made the attack of the fire more difficult.
