Kemmling Loses In Playoff For New England Girl's Golf Championship

One bad hole on the back nine does her in.

Berlin's Julia Kemmling shot 3-over 75, tying for first but lost on the first playoff hole to a birdie and finished second at the New England Girls High School Golf Championships.  Ashley D'Attilio shot 80 and finished 16th. The course, Bretwood in Keene, NH, played to a par of 72.

Austin Forauer playing in the Boy's division shot a 75 and placed 14th.

There were 52 participants in the boys division and 62 participants in the girls division.

"I went into the round feeling fairly confident because I shot -1 (71) in my practice round the day before," Kemmling said. "I was hitting good tee shots which put me in good position going into the green. I was playing consistent shooting even par through the first nine holes. I really only had one bad hole on the back nine where the wind caught my ball and blew it into a tree branch and it dropped into the river than runs through the course. This led to a triple bogey on that hole. I then made 7 pars to stay at +3. Besides that one hole, I was pleased with how I played."

Kemmling, just finishing her sophomore year at Berlin High School, said the playoff was over quickly.

"The playoff was with two seniors, one from RI and one from NH," she said. "All three of us hit great tee shots. We were even in the fairway. The senior from New Hampshire stuck her second shot two feet from the hole and made birdie, while the girl from RI and I made par.
