New Britain Bar Shuts Down For 2 Weeks Due To Coronavirus

A bar that is linked to coronavirus cases at Central Connecticut University will close for two weeks.

NEW BRITAIN, CT — A New Britain bar, Elmer’s Place, has shut down for two weeks after being linked to an increase in coronavirus cases at Central Connecticut State University, according to The Hartford Courant. Mayor Erin Stewart said there were three COVID-19 cases linked to students visiting a local bar at 1433 East St.

This was in addition to 36 students testing positive, with most of these cases traced to two large, off-campus parties.

The bar's owners volunteered to shut down for 14 days for staff to quarantine and for the building to undergo deep cleaning, The Courant reported. According to WFSB 3 TV, a sign on the bar's door reads “Closed to quarantine for the safety of our employees and customers.”

In a Facebook video, Stewart discussed the Hartford Courant report, and said the increase in cases is a result of the off-campus parties involving CCSU students. She said the students need to be mindful and care about others.

"Think beyond yourself," Stewart added in her video.
