New Britain-Berlin Community Chest Year-End Grants Top $95,000

An announcement from the Community Chest of New Britain and Berlin.

The Community Chest of New Britain and Berlin, a supporting organization of the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain, recently awarded a total of $95,600 in year-end 2014 grants to eight local nonprofit organizations and programs, bringing its 2014 grantmaking total to $193,450.

The Community Chest Board of Directors awarded grants to the following programs:

• Catholic Charities, Inc.: A $10,000 grant to enhance the electronic health record infrastructure of its New Britain Family Service Center.
• CCARC: A $15,000 grant for the PEERS (Personal Education and Enrichment through Respite Services) program.
• Central Connecticut Senior Health Services (CCSHS): A $5,600 grant for scholarships to CCSHS’s Good Life Fitness program.
• Coram Deo: Up to $20,000 in funding for its Client Care Program.
• Foodshare: A $10,000 grant for the Mobile Foodshare program.
• Literacy Volunteers of Central Connecticut: A $10,000 grant to help adults and families improve their lives through English literacy.
• Building Hope Together (formerly the Mayor’s Work Plan to End Homelessness), c/o YWCA of New Britain: A $15,000 grant for the program’s Work Plan Coordinator position (formerly the Housing and Employment Liaison), Buss Pass Project and Fresh Start Project.
• YWCA of New Britain: A $10,000 grant to support STRIVE, an after-school youth development program dedicated to the healthy development of girls.

Known as the Community Chest since its founding in 1919 and more recently as the United Way of New Britain and Berlin, today’s Community Chest of New Britain and Berlin is a supporting organization of the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain. A local and independent Board of Directors identifies and invests resources in programs and initiatives that benefit the New Britain and Berlin communities.

Established in 1941, the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain connects donors who care with causes that matter in Berlin, New Britain, Plainville and Southington.
