Despite a strong pitching performance by Mike Veronesi, the Berlin Redcoats lost a heartbreaker Friday in Newington, 5-4.

Berlin watched Newington erase a 4-2 Berlin lead with three runs in the bottom of the 7th.

Veronesi, went the distance, allowing only one earned run, and largely handcuffing the Newington line-up.

Marcus Guadarrama delivered the game-winning two-run single for the Indians, the first ball to leave the Berlin infield in the bottom of the 7th. Guadarrama also picked up the pitching victory with scoreless relief of starter Michael Avenoso after Berlin took a 4-2 lead in the 5th inning.

Leading the Berlin offense were Kyle Naples and Jeff Sylvester with two hits each. Naples scored twice and doubled. Matt Harackewicz and Guardarrama had two hits each for Newington.

Berlin, which opened the season with a win Wednesday over RHAM, fell to 1-1.
