9-Year-Old Skylar Kelly Caswell, Berlin Girl's Basketball's Number One Fan, Dies

She loved music, playing drums and xylophone, was a member of the Berlin Girl Scouts, and was an avid basketball fan acting as ball girl for the BHS girls basketball team.

Skylar Kelly Caswell, 9, beloved daughter of Betsy Caswell of Berlin, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, March 19 at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Skylar was born in New Milford, lived in Berlin where she attended Willard Elementary School attended Victory Christian Church. She loved music, playing drums and xylophone, was a member of the Berlin Girl Scouts, and was an avid basketball fan acting as ball girl for the BHS girls basketball team. She loved watching YouTube tutorials, anything from cooking to hair, and had recently started ballet class with the New Haven Ballet.

Skylar was a very special little girl who touched many lives in nine years. She never stopped making people smile and could light up a room with just her presence. Skylar’s contagious smile will remain in our hearts forever and will be dearly missed.

Along with her Mom, she is survived by her two sisters, Hilary Caswell and her fiancée, Michael Oziomek of New Britain and Courtney Caswell and her boyfriend, Michael Bragg of Berlin as well as eleven brothers and sisters; her grandparents, Jim and Dorothy Oram of Fairfield; two aunts, Cid Lewis and Susan Oram; a cousin Brett Lewis and many other cousins in Arizona and her dog, Macie who she loved dearly.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 23 at 10 a.m. at Victory Christian Church, 191 Meriden Road, Middlefield with Pastor Roy Bauer officiating. Burial will be private.

Friends and family may call on Friday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main Street, Cromwell. In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations in honor of Skylar to The Ryan T. Lee Foundation, 103 Peter Parley Row, Berlin, CT 06037 or Hospital for Special Care’s Ivan Lendl Adaptive Sports Camp, 2150 Corbin Avenue, New Britain, CT 06053.
