
It is with a heavy heart to inform you that Mohamed Antar, age 87, of Bethany, Connecticut passed away last night, Saturday, October 3, 2020 at John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington, Connecticut. May Allah forgive him, and make it easy on him and his family.
He was born on September 28, 1933, son of the late Abdel Ghany Antar and Nafisah El Fohail.
Mohamed is the brother of Ali Antar and Abdel Ghaney Antar. Mohamed left behind his wife MaryAllen Antar his sons Shareef and Omar Antar, nephews, Ameer, Adam, and Ibrahim Antar, and niece Susan Antar.

He graduated from Cairo University Qasr El Eyni Medicine School in 1957 and worked as a medical doctor throughout the Middle East. Mohamed received his Doctorate Degree in Radiation Biology from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. He first worked at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, then at Saint Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada. Mohamed was an Assistant Professor at Yale University Medical School and UCONN Health Center (UCONN Health) Nuclear Medicine Departments. Mohamed wrote and published many research articles, including chapters on nuclear medicine applications to analyze, diagnose, and treat thyroid function and disease. For 38 years he was the Director of Nuclear Medicine Service at two Veterans Administration (VA) Hospitals in Newington, Connecticut and Northport, Long Island, New York. Mohamed previously was a nuclear medicine physician at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland.
Mohamed was involved in various nuclear medicine professional organizations since their inception. He was a member of the Society of Nuclear Medicine, Radiological Society of North America, and Doctors Without Boarders. Mohamed was a contributor of the American Heart Association, and formed the Antar-Fouhail Endowment at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) for the Middle East and the Muslim World, with his brother Dr. Ali Antar.
He lived and worked at Forschungszentrum Jülich (Jülich Research Center), formerly Kernforschungsanlage (KFA) in Jülich, Germany. He attended medical meetings in New Zealand and Australia. Mohamed hiked and mountain climbed in the Rocky Mountain region of Saskatchewan, Canada, and traveled to Alaska for the national parks and to visit old friends. During his retirement in Marco Island, Florida, he enjoyed beach walking, swimming, and gardening tropical plants. Mohamed was a creative artist in home design, enjoyed plumbing, electrical projects, and construction.

Mohamed has been a long-time supporter and member of the Islamic Association of Greater Hartford (IAGH), Berlin Mosque.
Janaza and Burial details:
Janaza will be held inshAllah on Tuesday October 6th at 1 pm right after Zuhr prayer at the Islamic Association of Greater Hartford, Berlin, CT. followed by the burial.
Burial will be at the Garden of Peace Cemetery at 220 Realty Drive, Cheshire, CT.
