Single Inning Propels Daniel Hand Past Berlin In Baseball Finals
The Redcoats were held to just one hit in an outstanding pitching performance by Hand's David Antonetti.
MIDDLETOWN, CT — Junior righthander David Antonetti pitched a complete game one-hitter on Saturday night at Palmer Field, leading Daniel Hand High School to its first-ever state baseball championship with a 3-0 win over Berlin in the Class L title contest.
The Tigers, who finished with an overall 22-2 record, scored all the runs they needed in the fourth inning, led by a two-run double by Evan Mastrobattisto. The other run came on a sacrifice fly by Giovanni Roman.
Antonetti, who at one point retired nine straight batters, needed only 81 pitches. He struck out six and didn't walk a batter.

Berlin's lone hit came when lead-off hitter Jamie Palmese singled in the fourth.
The final outcome made Connecticut high school baseball history, as for the first time, all four baseball final matchups ended in shutouts.

Berlin, which was making its 15th championship game appearance with six previous titles, finished its season at 21-4.
