State Bond Commission Approves Funds For Berlin Football Field
The approval was criticized by a Republican leader, who said it was unfair to ask the state's voters to fund the project.

BERLIN, CT — The State Bond Commission approved to borrow more than $2.77 million recently for field improvements at Scalise Field in Sage Park, The Courant reported. The vote came shortly after House Speaker Joe Aresimowicz (D-Berlin) retired, leaving one legislator questioning whether state taxpayer funds should be allotted to the speaker's town.
State Sen. Kevin Witkos (R-Canton) was the solitary no vote against the measure, saying projects such as this one typically go to referendum, allowing local voters to decide whether they want to spend money on the project.
However, Gov. Ned Lamont said the funds are in line with usual spending and that "we've done similar things for dozens of communities."
