Town Plows Continue To Work On Clearing Streets

Berlin plows and snow-clearing equipment continued to work on clearing the historic amount of snow that fell over the weekend.

"They're out there and they'll be out there until about 6:30 p.m. tonight," Town Manager Denise McNair said late Tuesday afternoon. "These guys have worked just about around the clock and definitely as hard as they can. I know nobody wants to hear it but this was a horrendous amount of snow and as the snow fell our guys were out there all night."

Residents were upset and voiced their frustration on this website and by phone calls and e-mails. McNair wants the residents to know that she has heard all the voicemails and read all the e-mails.

"Every e-mail and voicemail is taken seriously," McNair said. "We have already had meetings to see what we can do better. We will examine everything and make recommendations from that."

McNair said that the streets are all passable with at least one-plus lanes and the crews will keep working to make it so there are two lanes on every road.

With school back in session Wednesday, McNair asked drivers to watch out for buses and children waiting at their bus stop.

"I would hope that with the roads more narrow than usual that drivers would defer to a school bus," McNair said. "Maybe they can pull over into a driveway to allow the bus to get by. Drivers should really use caution all over town because the mounds of snow at intersections are really high and tough to see around."
