Veterans' Ceremony Draws a Large Crowd

There was a tremendous turnout for the Berlin Veterans' Wartime Service Medal Ceremony Tuesday, Dec. 14 at McGee Middle School.

The event organized by State Rep. Joe Aresimownz, State Rep Cathy Abercrombie and State Senator Don DeFronzo honored more than 170 veterans who served in any conflict from World War II forward.

There were veterans of all ages present, from WWII vets to Operation Iraqi Freedom.

"There are three traits that all veterans I've met have," said Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz. "The are all humble, they are all resilient and they are all role models. They don't want any praise but they deserve it. They have to be resilient to do what they have done and come back to this life and their families. And many times these men go on to become leaders in their respective towns."

Linda Schwartz from the Commission of Veterans Affairs said, "I wish you could all see them over there. I wish you could see these young men defending our freedom. I wish this because you would be proud."
