American Family Care Brings Urgent Care Facility to Torrington

Residents of the Litchfield County region now have greater access to immediate medical treatment as one of Connecticut’s top urgent care providers brings its exceptional model of care to Torrington. American Family Care (AFC) opened its 13th urgent care location on Thursday, March 7 at 8:00 am. The newly constructed walk-in facility is conveniently located at 1171 East Main St. in Torrington.

“We chose Torrington for our next location because we felt the area was underserved by immediate and accessible health care,” explained Tom Kelly, independent owner and operator of 6 other Connecticut AFC locations. “I grew up in Connecticut and lived in the area, so we know the town well and have spent a lot of time here. My family does a lot of shopping here and Torrington has some of our favorite restaurants.”

At a cost nearing $2 million, the 3,215 sq. ft state-of-the art facility has eight exam rooms, and one procedure room, as well as its own on-site laboratory and x-ray equipment enabling providers to diagnose and treat illnesses and injuries, perform blood tests and It will be the only center in Torrington available to offer occupational health and workers comp services Monday thru Friday after 5:00pm and on weekends.
The center employs between 15-20 full and part time physicians, physician assistants, APRNs, X-Ray technicians, and medical assistants who are ready and available to treat everything from viruses and infections, cuts and fractures to ear, eye, and skin issues.

In order to serve the entire community, AFC accepts most insurance plans, including Medicaid, Husky, Medicare and Tricare. They also have very reasonable self-pay rates.
“As Connecticut’s largest locally owned urgent care center group, AFC is independent and not part of a larger health network,” said Kelly. “We try to solve the patient’s issue within our facility to eliminate the need for a specialist or additional doctor visits. However, If the next level of care is necessary, we are free to direct them to any specialist that we feel is the best since we are not beholden to a hospital or medical group. Our only concern is the best care for our patients.”

Along with urgent care issues, AFC also provides physicals and vaccinations for school, sports, immigration, DOT and pre-employment. They also have a very strong Occupational Health program for employers providing care for Workers’ Compensation cases and employee-related testing, such as drug screening, pre-employment & DOT physicals and hearing tests – the most efficient and accessible in the region.
A grand opening ribbon cutting event will be held on March 14th in conjunction with members of the Northwest Connecticut Chamber of Commerce and medical community, business owners and local leaders.

AFC produces a video series called “The AFC Urgent Care Medical Minute” on their YouTube Channel, a web-based tool for alerts, such as flu warnings or seasonal health issues like spring allergies.
