Author Talk on Whether Dogs, Cats Will Become Legal Citizens
Author of "Citizen Canine" set to visit Dogology in Canton to discuss pets' rights.

Should dogs and cats have the same legal rights as their human owners? Will pets be given the status of citizens?
While dogs and cats were once wild animals, today they are family members and surrogate children. A little more than 100 years ago, our pets didn’t warrant the mere legal status of property, but now they have more rights and protections than any other animal in the country. How did this happen, and where is it all going?
To help explore these questions, Dogology welcomes David Grimm, the author of the critically-acclaimed book, Citizen Canine: Our Evolving Relationship with Cats and Dogs, to its store in Canton on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. for a special book reading and signing.
In his book, Citizen Canine, Grimm traces the journey of pets from wild animals to family members and he explores how the relationship with our furry companions continues to evolve in the 21st century.
David will read from his book and sign copies purchased at the store that evening. A portion of the proceeds from each book sold will benefit Dogology’s Pet Food Pantry, the only no-cost pet food pantry in the Farmington Valley serving the needs of people and their pets.
