Bear Spotted In Canton

CANTON, CT — A black bear was spotted in a resident's driveway in Canton recently.

The video as seen in the Neighbors app was posted Feb. 5. The bear meanders through the driveway and disappears off camera.

Black bears have become a more common sight in Connecticut during recent years.
The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection recommends that residents remove birdfeeders and secure any potential food sources. Bears have no problem snacking on trash, barbeque grill leftovers, compost and pet food. They are often scared away by loud noises.

In most situations bears will wander back to more secluded areas and they can often be scared away by loud noises. Bears were spotted more than 8,000 times in 2018. Sightings can be reported to DEEP.
