Canton Earns Votes in Latest Girls Basketball Poll

The two-time defending Class S champions opened this season by winning eight of their first nine outings.

CANTON, CT — A string of eight victories in nine contests earned two-time defending Class S champion Canton High School some votes in the latest girls basketball poll of coaches and media members.

The only blemish thus far for the Warriors (8-1) is a 67-64 triple overtime loss to Avon on Dec. 29. The team has three games on this week's schedule, hosting Ellington Tuesday night, then traveling to Conard on Thursday and seventh-ranked Notre Dame-Fairfield on Saturday.

Mercy (10-0) moved into sole possession of first place in this week's rankings.
