Canton Main Street Project Reaches Out for Volunteers

Submitted release

Volunteers are the focus of Canton's newly-formed board of directors of the town's Main Street project. At its first meeting on October 3, board members sought to expand the scope of stakeholders who can provide input to the developing project.

"It is vitally important to hear all of the stakeholders in our community," said Amy Parchen, Canton Main Street Project Chair. "At this point, we are beginning to formulate the needs of Collinsville so that the eventual work done there is responsive to the needs to residents, businesses and visitors alike. This unique community has so much to say, and the Canton Main Street Project is determined to hear all voices and to craft a proposal that makes sense to everyone in Collinsville."

The first meeting of the Canton Main Street Project's board of directors heard from Connecticut Main Street associate director Kimberly Parsons-Whitaker who discussed the next steps involved in building the organization. "Key to the success of the project is expanding the stakeholders involved to ensure that all voices are heard," said Ms. Whitaker.

The first decision taken by the board was to seek volunteers for four subcommittees: Organization, Design, Promotion, and Economic Restructuring. Specifically the organization is looking for individuals with such skills as marketing, social media, event planning, public relations, and fundraising. Other skills sought are grant-writing, website development, architecture, and small business assistance. Individuals wishing to volunteer should contact Amy Parchen at cantonctmainstreet@gmail.com
