Canton ShopRite Offering Free Fruit to Kids

ShopRite announced Thursday that it is expanding its Free Fruit For Kids program and Hartford County stores are part of it.

CANTON, CT — ShopRite announced Thursday that it is expanding its Free Fruit For Kids program to 54 additional stores, including Canton and several others in Hartford County.

ShopRite now offers the the program in more than 125 locations in the supermarket’s six-state area, which includes Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland.

The program was first launched as a pilot in December 2016.

“We believe it’s never too early to begin teaching kids about the importance of good nutrition,” says Natalie Menza-Crowe, the director of health and wellness at ShopRite. “We’re grateful to have the opportunity to provide free fruit to kids as a way to encourage better-for-you snacking. Plus, by offering free classes, store tours, and other programs for kids, we’re able to help children learn lifelong lessons about healthy eating and basic cooking skills.”

As part of the Free Fruit For Kids program, kids 12 and under receive a free banana, clementine or other seasonal fruit while shopping with a parent or guardian.

The newest store locations offering the Free Fruit For Kids program include Canton, East Hartford, Manchester, and Southington.
