Farmington Valley Health District Director Named to National Post

CANTON, CT — The director of health for the Farmington Valley Health District has been elected to a prominent post with the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO).

Jennifer C. Kertanis, MPH, will serve as president-elect on NACCHO's 2019-2020 Board of Directors. As president-elect, she will continue to serve on the Board of Directors’ Executive Committee in 2019-2020 before assuming the position of president in 2020-2021. She began her year term as president-elect July 1.

“NACCHO is an invaluable resource for local health departments and the work we do to improve the health of our communities. It is my pleasure to serve in this capacity,” Kertanis said.

Kertanis, a graduate of Enrico Fermi High School in Enfield, has 30 years of public health experience, serving in multiple capacities in non-profit, state, and local public health agencies. She was appointed Director of the Farmington Valley Health District in Sept. 2012.

“As a long-standing NACCHO volunteer and leader, Jennifer Kertanis is well-positioned to assume the Presidency of NACCHO next year," NACCHO Chief Executive Officer Lori Tremmel Freeman said. "We look forward to her having her experience and expertise guide and shape NACCHO’s future.”

The Farmington Valley Health District promotes health programs and policies that support good health; prevents disease outbreaks and conditions that give rise to poor health; and protects residents from health threats. The District encompasses the towns of Avon, Barkhamsted, Canton, Colebrook, East Granby, Farmington, Granby, Hartland, New Hartford and Simsbury.
