CANTON, CT — The annual Memorial Day Parade in Canton has been canceled due to the new coronavirus pandemic, officials announced Monday. The town will hold a ceremony in place of the parade on May 25.

“In the interest of safety, the Town of Canton will not conduct the regular Memorial Day parade this year,” officials wrote in a post on social media. “In its place, Grand Marshall Charles Hammond and town officials will honor our fallen veterans by laying a wreath at the Veterans Memorial Cannon at the corner of Bridge and River streets. This ceremony will be recorded and posted to the Town website and social media by noon in Memorial Day. We ask that you observe this solemn ceremony from the safety of your home.”
