The Town of Canton has scheduled a public information meeting regarding the draft update of the Plan of Conservation and Development.
The workshop is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday Oct. 29 at the Community Center, Dyer Avenue (Browsing of materials will be available at 6:15 PM)
The meeting will begin with an overview of the strategies included in the recently drafted 2014-2024 Plan of Conservation and Development.
Following the informational presentation will be an opportunity for attendees to have questions regarding the Plan answered. Finally, residents and property owners will have an opportunity to provide comments on the draft Plan and its suggested strategies and priorities.
The meeting room will be open beginning at 6:15 pm for informal browsing of Plan materials and interaction with Town and Committee representatives regarding the draft Plan. Following the public meeting, the Plan of Conservation and Development Update Committee will consider all comments received and review and refine the draft Plan. The Plan of Conservation and Development has been organized into two parts - a “Strategic Plan” and an “Implementation Plan”.
The Strategic Plan outlines the broad strategies considered to be desirable for Canton to pursue. A separate document, the Implementation Plan, outlines specific steps or tasks intended to implement the strategies. Both parts are available on the Town website at www.townofcantonct.org/POCD The update was prepared by a committee composed of representatives of selected Town boards and commissions, community organizations, and interested residents.
By design, the committee’s membership reflects a variety of perspectives on the topics covered in the POCD. Many hours were spent by the Committee members and Town Staff gathering information, attending meetings, discussing strategies, conducting public workshops, and writing and reviewing multiple drafts of each chapter. The Board of Selectmen and members of the public closely monitored the progress of the update. The Committee appreciates the valuable interest and input from all who contributed.
The update represents the cooperation of these members to reach a consensus on what is the best plan for Canton. Written comments on the draft Plan of Conservation and Development may also be submitted prior to Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, via email to the Town Planner, Neil Pade, at npade@townofcanton.org, or may be mailed or delivered to Mr. Pade at the Town of Canton Land Use Office, 4 Market Street, Collinsville, CT 06022. Canton residents are encouraged to come to the meeting to help ensure that the Plan of Conservation and Development reflects community goals.
“This Plan is an important document which will be used to guide future conservation and development activity over the next decade and beyond”, said Jonathan Thiesse, Chairman of the Plan of Conservation and Development Update Committee.
