WIDE OPEN GOLF CLASSIC CELEBRATED 38th CHARITY FUNDRAISER
Another Successful Year for the Wide Open Charity Golf Tournament.
On October 4th, 213 golfers gathered at Blue Fox Run in Avon for the 38th Annual Wide Open Golf Classic Tournament and Charity Fundraiser. Organizers of the tournament were Dave Regan, Ryan Mains, Fran Amara and Dr. Matthew Keefe from Canton Valley Dental. This was the largest tournament yet!!! The turnout was amazing and the tournament ran smooth as can be.
With the monies raised in 2019, the Wide Open Committee plans to invite Chris Herren, a former NBA point guard for the Celtics, who lost his career to drugs and alcohol, to speak to the high schools in the Farmington Valley area in November of 2020.
The response to his previous presentations was overwhelming from both the students and the public as Chris Herren’s honesty and openness revealed his soul-wrenching story of how drugs and alcohol contributed to the loss of his basketball career, and the dire effect his addiction had on his family and personal life.

In addition, donations will be made to help fund the substance free graduation party for Canton and Northwestern Regional 7 High School. Another donation was made by the Wide Open Committee to the charity named Smile Train. Smile Train provides free cleft repair surgeries to children all around the world born with cleft palates and who cannot afford treatment. The committee has chosen to also make donations to a few individual families who were going through the toughest of times. This year they hope to be able to do the same for these and other families. The newest addition to our beneficiary list is “The Healing Meals Project”. Healing Meals has a dual mission. They provide healthy organic meals to people in health crisis while fostering compassion and empowering adult and youth volunteers in the community. The youth component for Healing Meals is right in line with our mission for supporting our youth!
