CLINTON, CT — Big Y has announced plans to build a new supermarket on the site of the former Morgan School in Clinton. Big Y plans to build the store next year in the Indian River Shops at 11 Killingworth Tpk. in Clinton, officials recently announced.

The new store will be approximately 55,000 square feet within the soon to be redeveloped 180,000-square-foot retail center. It will be the supermarket chain’s second "World Class Market" in Middlesex County, joining its Old Saybrook store, and the 72nd Big Y overall in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Officials said the project will provide several opportunities for local contractors during construction.

Big Y officials said that more than 150 full- and part-time positions are planned at the “state-of-the-art market that will rival the finest markets in the world with superior customer service, locally sourced fruits and vegetables, fresh sushi, numerous gluten free and organic items along with other locally produced offerings.”
