Clinton Police: 'Citizens Police Academy' Applications Due Wednesday

Interested in learning more about what it's like to work as a local police officer? Well, you're in luck: the Clinton Police Department is hosting another session of its "Citizens Police Academy." 

The course is designed to provide residents an overview of the day-to-day operations and inner workings of the Clinton Police Department.

Several Police Topics Covered

The 10-week course will provide educational information on topics such as: 

• History of the Clinton Police Department
• Patrol Procedures
• Criminal investigation
• DUI laws
• Drug enforcement
• Domestic Violence laws
• Traffic enforcement
• Police/Community relations
• Budgeting
• The Judicial Process
• Youth crimes
• Technology in Policing

Each participant of the Citizens Academy will be given the opportunity to go out on patrol with a Clinton police officer. Participants will also be allowed to participate in a practical shooting exercise at the police firing range.

Course Begins March 18

This course is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, March 18 and run for approximately 10 consecutive weeks. 

The class will be held in the Community Room at the Clinton Police Department each Tuesday evening starting at 6 p.m. Each weekly class is scheduled to last approximately three hours.

Enrollment will be limited to the first 25 Clinton Residents who are age 18 or older that apply. Applicants are subject to a criminal background check.

Applications may be picked up at the Communications window in the main lobby of the Clinton Police Department, located at #170 East Main Street. 

Completed applications must be returned to the Clinton Police Department by March 12.
