Clinton Police Officers Get New Look
The new uniform is more functional and provides more safety for officers, police said.

The Clinton Police Department officers have changed their look. Effective June 1, the Clinton Police will wear a new 'traditional law enforcement uniform featuring navy blue uniforms with traditional style eight point hats.
"The new Blauer brand uniform change was inspired and ushered in and by the newly appointed Clinton Chief of Police Vincent DeMaio, who did so with the unanimous backing and consent of the Clinton Police Union," Sgt. Jeremiah F. Dunn, Public Information Officer, said in a press release. "The cost of the uniform transition was funded from monies already budgeted from each officers personal uniform stipend, therefore there were no additional expenses attributed to the Town of Clinton."
Dunn said the change was made for a number of reasons. The new uniform is a more functional work uniform that is more comfortable to wear and is compatible to changing weather conditions.
The fabric is more durable and practical, he said.
"This new style uniform also provides greater safety options to the wearer, such as the ability to utilize auxiliary support systems to better support the officers duty gear in an effort to reduce potential back injuries," Dunn said. "The uniform is also considerably less expensive than the prior uniform, and the new uniform vendor is local (Horwitz Uniforms in West Haven). Thus making the turnaround time for a newly ordered item or replacement item a much quicker than what the previous vendor could provide."
The new uniform offers several simple options for officers to wear and still maintain a professional uniform appearance, Dunn said.
"One of those options include a much more comfortable outer garment (exterior) bullet proof vest holder with the badge and name tag sewn on to the garment giving the appearance that the officer is in a uniform shirt," he added. "Other options include wearing the traditional pin on badge and pin on accoutrements, or having the badge and name tag embroidered onto the uniform."
Other new changes to the uniform include allowing officers to wear a very, highly visible bright yellow and reflective stripped shirt and a navy blue ball cap which displays an embroidered Clinton Police Department patch on the front of the cap, which will be worn by officers assigned to traffic control details.
