Fire At Essex Restaurant Requires Massive Firefighter Response

A fire broke out at The Black Seal early Monday morning.

ESSEX, CT — A fire at a popular Essex seafood restaurant broke out early Monday morning. The fire began in the kitchen at the Black Seal restaurant on Main Street and spread into an apartment above, according to WTNH.

Everyone made it out of the building and no one was injured in the blaze. It's unclear the extent of the damage and when the restaurant will be able to reopen.

WFSB reported that there was a massive firefighter response including mutual aid required from several surrounding towns.

The mixed-use building housing the restaurant includes several apartments as well. The call for the fire came in at 4:15 a.m.

According to its website, the restaurant is "a landmark near the center of the historical village of Essex" and intends to carry on "the tradition of our town’s warm New England charm and the Essex nautical spirit. When you visit our pub you’ll be reminded of the 'old salts' of the sea while you enjoy our classic pub fare, great choice of brews, or contemporary cuisine."
