Man, Dog Rescued From House Fire In Clinton

The man and his dog escaped a house fire by getting onto the garage roof during the overnight hours in Clinton.

CLINTON, CT — A man and his dog were rescued from a house fire after climbing onto a roof during the overnight hours Thursday in Clinton, according to multiple reports, including NBC Connecticut. The Clinton Volunteer Fire Department responded to the home on Cedar Road at about 3 a.m. The homeowner told fire officials that he was awakened by his smoke detector.

“The resident called 9-1-1 and advised that he was trapped by the conditions in his home and was going to climb out on the roof,” fire officials wrote in a post on Facebook. “Clinton Police Officers were the first to arrive and quickly grabbed a ladder from the garage. The man was able to climb down to safety. Firefighters arrived on scene and were able to extinguish the fire which was located in the kitchen before it was able to spread to other areas of the home. Truck 1, Engine 1, Engine 3, and Ambulance 3 responded from Clinton Fire Headquarters. Engine 4 responded from Station 2.”

Officials said the homeowner was taken to a nearby facility for a precautionary evaluation. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
