Suspect Punches K-9 During Chase On I-95 In Old Saybrook
The suspect ran from the scene after a crash on I-95 and was apprehended by K-9 Chase alongside the highway, according to police.
OLD SAYBROOK, CT — A suspect is in custody after punching a police K-9 in the head while being pursued by police along I-95 in Old Saybrook. The incident began unfolding Friday night after a one-car accident on I-95 South in Old Saybrook. The driver got out of the car and ran from the scene, according to police.
“Patrolman Schulz and K-9 Chase encountered the subject running alongside I-95 South near Exit 68,” Old Saybrook Police wrote in a post on Facebook. “After being ordered several times to STOP, the man began to run towards the highway as vehicles were traveling by to elude the police.
“K-9 Chase apprehended the suspect, prior to him reaching a busy I-95 Travel Lane. The suspect continued to disobey the Police Officer’s Commands and began punching K-9 Chase in the head and attempting to injure K-9 Chase’s eyes.

“After a brief struggle with both Police Officers and K-9 Chase the suspect was taken into custody.”
The suspect, who wasn’t immediately identified by police, was issued a summons for the motor vehicle accident and released by Connecticut State Police. Old Saybrook Police then took custody of the suspect.

K-9 Chase sustained minor injuries is currently being evaluated by a veterinarian, according to police.
