VFW Post 9918 in Clinton Holds Successful Summer Fundraiser

Generous Travelers Stop Traffic to Support Veterans

CLINTON---Breezy beautiful days on the Connecticut Riviera this weekend. Clinton's VFW 9918 and Auxiliary held its annual fundraiser, which literally stops traffic on the west end of town. Members of both organizations stood at intersections and turnoffs with military helmets in hand, asking for donations. No wonder the event is called the Buck in Helmet drive!

Stella Onofrio (with Wiggy, her penguin in the helmet) was the youngest volunteer August 10, accompanied by her mother Andrea Onofrio, an Auxiliary officer, pictured here with Post member and Viet Nam veteran Tom Walsh.

Post member and Navy veteran Bob Hanson is pictured here with Tom Walsh. Bob's wife, Tina Hansen, is also a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

Commanding the money counting and coin rolling operation was Megan Humphrey, Auxiliary treasurer, seated in the foreground. Also pictured are the Onofrios and Carole Kehoe, Auxiliary chaplain, standing.

Many other Post and Auxiliary members were on hand and helping Saturday, including Deb McKernan, Auxiliary Guard; Sheldon J. Potesak, Post Commander; Tom Kehoe, Charlie Mackenzie and Auxiliary President Bethany Greeley Knight.
