WESTBROOK, CT — Westbrook High School will be closed for three days after a person at the school tested positive for the coronavirus, officials announced Sunday. The school will be closed through at least Sept. 16 for deep cleaning and for officials to conduct contact tracing.

Officials aren’t identifying the person who tested positive due to privacy laws, but said anyone whose child was in the same class cohort or in close contact with the person will be contacted. Anyone who was in close contact will be advised to self-quarantine for 14 days.

All students at the high school will participate in distance learning while it is closed.

“Pending further information on this investigation, students and staff who have not been identified as either being close contacts or in the same class cohort as the confirmed positive individual will be allowed to return to school this Thursday, September 17,” according to a joint letter to the school community from Zachary Faiella, Westbrook Director of Health, and Patricia Charles, Interim Superintendent. “Please note reopening may be subject to change if additional positive cases are identified.

“The Westbrook Middle School will remain open due to the separate nature of that building and student traffic.”
