1 Vehicle Stolen, 11 Others Burglarized In Darien, Cops Say

All of the incidents occurred during a specific time frame and had one simple thing in common.

DARIEN, CT — A dozen vehicles were broken into in Darien between Sept. 23 and 25, one of which was stolen and the other 11 were burglarized, according to Darien police. In all 12 incidents, the vehicles had been left unlocked at the time, officials said.

The stolen vehicle, a 2011 Toyota Sienna, was taken from the parking lot of the Darien Train Station on West Avenue sometime between 5 a.m. on the 25th and 7 p.m. on the 26th when the owner returned to find it missing.

"The vehicle had been left unlocked and the complainant stated there may have been a spare key inside," police said in a statement. "No signs of forced entry in the area."

In the 11 vehicle burglaries reported below, all had been left unlocked during the preceding overnight hours, and the incidents were reported the following day.

"In instances where nothing was taken, the burglary was evident due to the contents of glove boxes/center consoles being strewn about the front seats of the victimized vehicles," police said.
