3 Rescued From Capsized Boat In Waters Off Darien: Police

The incident occurred Sunday afternoon in Ziegler's Cove.

DARIEN, CT — Three people were rescued on Sunday from a capsized boat in Ziegler's Cove in Darien, according to police. No injuries were reported.

The incident occurred at about 4:45 p.m. when members of the Darien police marine division were contacted via the nautical channel 16 that a 23-feet Donzi was sinking in the cove.

"When [police] arrived the vessel was partially submerged," said Darien police Sgt. James Palmieri in a statement. "The three occupants were taken aboard the Noroton Fire boat and transferred to Darien 127 (marine police vessel)."

Attempts to were made to tow the submerged vessel, "but the amount of water it had taken on caused it to capsize."

Tow Boat US was called to the scene was able to right the vessel and tow it to Norwalk.

"Officers determined the likely cause of the issue to be a malfunctioning bilge pump" Palmieri said.
