Against Coronavirus, Darien Is Resilient, First Selectman Says
Darien First Selectman Jayme Stevenson Monday delivered her State of the Town address for 2020.
DARIEN, CT — Though the coronavirus pandemic has left an indelible mark on Darien, the state and the nation and the rest of the world in 2020, First Selectman Jayme Stevenson said Monday that Darien remains resolute in its fight against the virus.
Stevenson, currently in her fifth term, delivered her remarks Monday during the annual "State of the Town" presentation before the Representative Town Meeting. The hearing was held virtually due to the pandemic.
"Tonight, I will start where I usually end...with deep gratitude to the long list of extraordinary people who have not only risen to the myriad of challenges we’ve had this year but who have gone above and beyond, risking their own well-being, to keep us safe, our children in school, businesses open and the wheels of government turning," Stevenson said.

She thanked the residents of Darien for their help and resilience in dealing with the difficulties the virus has posed, including the tough protocols designed to help mitigate the spread of the virus.
"It's true, we've missed many beloved town happenings...a year of Bicentennial birthday events, the Memorial Day Parade, town fireworks, the Darien Road Race, holiday tree lighting and many other non-profit events," Stevenson said. "What's extraordinary is how folks have innovated by going virtual or finding new ways to achieve their mission."
