Chocolate Works Of Darien To Close At End Of October

The coronavirus pandemic took a toll on the business, co-owner Meredith Scheine said.

DARIEN, CT — Chocolate Works of Darien, a candy store in the Goodwives Shopping Center, will close at the end of October, a victim of the changing business climate brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

In an emotional video on the store's Facbook page, co-owner Meredith Scheine discussed the difficult decision she, and her husband and co-owner Greg Scheine, made to close. The store opened in 2015.

Scheine thanked the community for all the happy memories and support over the years, stressing that she and Greg loved being part of Darien.

"We opened the store to be a family friendly chocolate and candy store to make people happy," Scheine said. "And I hope we did that, and I hope that we succeeded in making this everything we wanted it to be."

The store is still selling candy and completing special orders through the month, but Scheine said the hours during the final weeks might be a bit different depending on the day. Generally, the store is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., but it might close in the afternoon closer to 5 p.m. on some days.
