Coronavirus Infects 5 Darien Childen, Teens: First Selectman

A total of six new confirmed coronavirus cases were recently were reported in Darien. The sixth case involves an adult.

DARIEN, CT — While the number of new confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Darien largely have been down over the past week, six new cases were reported on Wednesday, five of which involve children and teenagers, according to First Selectman Jayme Stevenson.

Five of the six involve patients between the ages of 10 and 19, and the sixth case involves a patient between the ages of 40 and 49, according to Darien health officials. The total number of coronavirus cases currently in Darien stands at about 225, and the number of residents who have died as a result of the virus remains at five.

"Everyone must take care not to spread the virus by wearing masks, washing hands and distancing from others!" Stevenson wrote on her First Selectman's Twitter page.

From July 14 through July 20, only two confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported in Darien, one involving a patient between the ages of 10 and 19, and the other involving a patient between the ages of 60 and 69, according to town health officials.

In a Code Red message on July 20, Stevenson urged residents to be mindful of the coronavirus precautions particularly involving the town's younger inhabitants.

"We can't stress enough how important it is for our children of all ages to follow this guidance as it will protect them and everyone around them, particularly those who are medically vulnerable, their parents and grandparents."
