Darien Earth Day Event Set For June 8: Update
Eight cemeteries throughout town are scheduled to be cleaned up during the event.
On Saturday, June 8th from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The Masonic Club of Darien is hosting the 2nd Annual Darien Earth Day Cemetery Clean-Up-Day. Eight cemeteries around town will be getting a spring cleaning including Slawson Graveyard which is the resting place of town founder Thaddeus Bell.
The event had been scheduled for April 20 but was changed to June 8 because inclement weather is expected the weekend of April 20, according to organizers.

All volunteers are to meet at Ivanhoe Lodge #107 which is located at 354 Post Road in Darien, at 10 a.m. for instructions and information on the 8 cemetery locations to be cleaned before being divided into teams. Please dress appropriately and bring rakes, gloves and any other tools you have which could be used for blowing leaves or cutting tree limbs.
Darien Masons from Ivanhoe Lodge #107 along with The Town of Darien’s Monuments and Ceremonies Commission Cemetery Committee have joined forces to make this an annual event.

Mark Lindsay, organizer for The Masonic Club of Darien, said, “This is a great opportunity for us to work with volunteers throughout the community. We thank Chairman Sharon Kells from the Darien Cemetery Committee for helping us make this an annual event. People are amazed with the history they learn by visiting these graveyards. The forefathers of our town are buried in these historical locations and we all owe it to them to see that these sites are well kept for years to come.”
