Darien Man Accused Of Making False Police Call To Harass Victim

DARIEN, CT — A 46-year-old Darien man is facing charges after police said he made a false 911 call in an effort to harass a person who has a protective order against the suspect.

Loren Meyer, of Goodwives River Road, was arrested on June 17 on charges of violation of a protective order and misuse of the emergency 911 system.

According to Darien police, the incident began at about 4:30 p.m. when officers were called to a local home on a report of a man "attempting to gain forcible entry into the front door."

"The caller, later identified as Loren Meyer, was not home but [said he] was actively monitoring the subject on home security cameras," said Darien police. "Officers responded in emergency fashion as the call presented as a burglary in progress. When officers arrived they found the residence to be under construction and the male at the front door a hired locksmith."

Officers spoke to the homeowner, who was at the home at the time, who told the officers that she was in the process of having the locks changed.

"The victim felt that Meyer knew that there was not an active burglary at the residence and summoned police as a harassment tactic," police said. "The victim further informed officers that there was an order of protection against Meyer forbidding him from harassing the victim. While speaking with the victim, Meyer arrived on scene. When asked, Meyer told officers he knew that the victim/homeowner was on scene and had relayed that information during his 911 call. A review of the 911 call recordings revealed this to be false, Meyer can be heard mentioning only one individual and that the person was actively forcing entry."

Meyer was taken into custody and was held in lieu of bail of $50,000. He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
