Darien PD Probes Possible Link To New Canaan Attempted Murder
Norwalk's Mynor Romeo Alvarado-Canahui, charged with attempted murder in New Canaan, may have tried a similar crime in Darien, police said.

DARIEN, CT — Darien police detectives are investigating whether a 31-year-old Norwalk man charged with attempted murder in New Canaan tried to commit the same type of crime in Darien.
Mynor Romeo Alvarado-Canahui, of Woodward Avenue, is facing charges of criminal attempt at murder, first-degree kidnapping and first-degree assault in connection with the May 25 incident, police said. He is accused of trying to drown a woman in a river after he struck her with his car.
Alvarado-Canahui drove past the victim several times in a red Honda Civic "before intentionally striking her from behind," police said. He then tried to bundle her into his car, but after that failed he attempted to drown her, according to police.

After reading press reports about the attack, a woman "came to the Darien Police Department who indicated that she had experienced an incident with what she believed to be the same vehicle and driver," according to Darien police Sgt. James Palmieri.
"The victim stated that on April 19th, 2020, around noon she had been running Northbound on Hollow Tree Ridge Road near Camp Avenue in the Southbound lane when a red Honda Civic traveling North crossed the double-yellow centerline, striking her with its driver's side rearview mirror," Palmieri said. "The red Honda paused momentarily and the driver made eye contact with the victim before driving away."

The woman identified Alvarado-Canahui from his published police booking photo as the individual driving the red Honda when it struck her, according to Palmieri.

"We are also asking that any residents in the area with home security cameras review any images they may have on that day/time. Further, if you believe you interacted with the above vehicle and subject, please contact us."
Anyone with information regarding the Darien case is asked to contact the Darien Police Detective Bureau at 203-662-5330.
"We'd like to remind the public that these incidents, while concerning, no longer appear to involve an ongoing threat to the public," Palmieri said. "As this is an ongoing investigation, no further information will be released at this time."
