Darien Woman Charged with Violating a Protective Order by Approaching Brother

A 35-year-old woman now living with her aunt in Noroton Heights visited Stop & Shop on Heights Road and got too close to her brother, who works there and who has an active protective order against her, so she was arrested, Darien police said.

Darien police gave this account (an accusation not proven in court) about the matter:

The woman, Debra Williams, who lives with her aunt on nearby Allen O’Neil Drive, went to the store at 148 Heights Rd. to return some cans and buy some cigarettes with the money. She went with her aunt and said she didn’t know that her brother, a Norwalk resident, was working there.

The can-return machines weren’t working, so the aunt entered the store to get someone to fix them and saw the brother. The two acknowledged seeing each other, an then the aunt walked into the store with his sister.

The brother walked outside and asked his girlfriend to take a picture of his sister at the store. He also called police and told them that a protective order had been violated.

Police spoke with Williams, who said the matter was a misunderstanding, and arrested her on a charge of violating a protective order. She was initially held on $10,000 bond. Currently, she is being held on $15,000 bond, according to the Connecticut Judicial Branch website.

Williams is facing charges from three arrests made by Norwalk police in recent months, according to the website:

• On Dec. 3, Williams was charged by Norwalk police with first-degree assault, a felony, and disorderly conduct.
• On Feb. 27, she was charged with third-degree criminal mischief, sixth-degree larceny and disorderly conduct.
• On April 11, eight days before the incident at Stop & Shop, she was charged by Norwalk police with felony-level violation of a protective order in that city, along with second-degree breach of peace and reckless driving, all on the same day.

All the cases are in state Superior Court in Stamford, where she was scheduled to appear Thursday.
