The Darien High School boys volleyball team jumped to the head of the class to become number one in the state after knocking off Greenwich on Thursday, Norwalk on Friday, and Ludlowe on Saturday. Their perfect record is on the line later today as they match up at home against Stamford at 4:00 p.m. for their fourth game in five days.
Darien sports the best record in the state at 9-0. Enfield is ranked second with a 4-0 record. The former number one, Trumbull, suffered their first defeat at home against New Canaan last week and fall to third in the state with a 9-1 record. New Canaan lost Gavin Bramwit, a tri-captain, to injury in the first set against Trumbull, but still managed to win 3-2 on the road. New Canaan is the only team to win a set over Darien this season and the two rivals faceoff next week in a highly anticipated rematch.
The schedule does not get any easier for Darien. The Wave play Trumbull at home Thursday, May 6 and New Canaan at home on Monday, May 10. Staples and Ridgefield are ranked sixth and tenth in the state, respectively, and Darien will play them within the next two weeks as well as playing Staples again in the last game of the season.
