FCIAC Boys Volleyball is about one third of the way through the season and the top teams are starting to emerge. Darien and Trumbull are the only undefeated teams and they will meet on May 6.
Trumbull, like Darien, has lost only one set during their eight wins. Trumbull's only losing set came at the hands of Ridgefield. Ridgefield lost to Staples, but managed to win two sets and force a deciding fifth set. Darien beat Ridgefield on April 26 in three sets. The fact that Darien swept Ridgefield would seem to indicate that Darien is slightly favored over Trumbull -- on paper.
Darien beat Westhill on April 24 by a 3-0 score and then Ridgefield on April 26 also by a 3-0 score and are now riding a 25 game regular season win streak. The Blue Wave puts that streak on the line on April 29 at Greenwich. Greenwich sports a 5-1 record and their only loss was to Trumbull 3-0. Darien's matchup with Greenwich should offer some clues about what Darien can expect when they face Trumbull.

But before the Wave meets Trumbull they will play Norwalk on Friday, April 30, Ludlowe on Saturday, May 1, and Stamford on Monday, May 3. Due to scheduling difficulties in this pandemic year, DHS will play four games in the span of five days and the Trumbull game then will be their fifth game in seven days. It’s going to be a great week of volleyball.
The entire Darien starting lineup ranks high state-wide in all the major statistical categories.
