DARIEN, CT — Police said all traffic signals in the downtown area are without power due to a transformer fire Wednesday afternoon.

Around 2:30 p.m., police said on Twitter a power line and transformer fire had broken out on Leroy Ave. in the area of Squab Ln. As a result, Leroy Ave is closed in that area and drivers are asked to seek out alternate routes, police said.

"All traffic signals in our downtown area are without power due to a transformer fire," police said on Twitter. "Please treat these intersections as you would treat a four-way stop. Please drive safe."

"Please dial 9-1-1 for true emergencies only," police said. "At this point, we do not have current information as to when power will be restored to the downtown area."
