Halstead Agents Contribute to Donation of Flags to Darien

From Halstead Real Estate: Initiated by David Hawes, Halstead Agent, a number of community leaders in Darien have come together to donate 100 American Flags to the town of Darien. As of Memorial Day weekend, the flags now adorn existing light posts throughout the town and will remain through the 4th of July weekend.

Hawes’s motivation, as he stated in an email to Darien’s First Selectman Jayme Stevenson, is to create “a visual for everyone in town, and those passing through, to be reminded of the sacrifice made by so many and commemorate our heritage.”

Joining Hawes in donating and volunteering time on this project are a large number of fellow community leaders, including his wife and fellow Halstead Agent Holly Hawes, as well as Halstead Agent Nancy Dauk. Other members of the group include John Hertz, Paul Hertz, Robert Wood, and Tim Wood of Hollow Tree Self Storage, and Rob and Dave Campbell of Ring’s End Lumber.

“You can’t do these things if you can’t get help,” Hawes says. “I’ve had numerous people who have offered to volunteer and help because this isn’t just a one-time deal. This is also putting the flags up and taking them down, when it’s appropriate, and it’s not just for this year.”

Hawes noted that he, his wife and Dauk have been business partners for years, explaining, “Whenever we can support each other with things outside the office, we do so.”

As much as anything, Hawes is thrilled to know that people are embracing the initiative.

“We have a great parade in town for Memorial Day and just looking around I felt we could do more. At the veteran’s cemetery in town, I know the boy scouts are very involved in putting out wreaths and flags for Veterans Day and Memorial Day. So this is going to be just a little additional dressing on the town,” continued Hawes.
