Heavy Rain Brings Flash Flood Warning Friday Night

Watch out for flash flooding Friday evening as heavy downpours continue.

Here's the latest Darien-specific forecast (as of 1:56 p.m.) from National Weather Service:

  • Friday afternoon: "Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 81. South wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
  • Friday night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 10pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 10pm and 2am, then a slight chance of showers after 2am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Low around 67. West wind 6 to 9 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
  • Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. West wind 5 to 10 mph.

A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for Fairfield County and most of Southern Connecticut as thunderstorms continue to drop inches of rain across the region.

The warning is in effect until 9 p.m. Friday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) is predicting 1 to 3 inches of rain to fall across Northern Fairfield County, with heavier showers possible that could bring 1 to 2 inches per hour this evening.

Due to recent rainfall in the area, flash flooding could produce dangerous situations.
