League Of Women Voters Of Darien To Hold Virtual Annual Meeting

The League of Women Voters of Darien invites the community to its annual meeting, which will be held online this week.

DARIEN, CT — The League of Women Voters of Darien invites the community ts annual meeting, which will be held online Wednesday at 7 p.m.

According to a news release, Patricia Russo, executive director of the campaign school at Yale University will address the topic "Lessons Learned: Tales from the Campaign Trail." The free program will be hosted by the Darien Library and is open to the public.

Russo is a nationally respected leader focused on achieving political parity in the United States and the world. For over thirty years she has held numerous leadership positions in the public, private and not for profit organizations centered on gender equality. She has held leadership positions on federal, state and local political campaigns.

Russo presently serves as executive director of The Campaign School at Yale University, a non-partisan, issue-neutral political campaign training program for those interested in running for office, as well as for those interested in campaign management and embrace the school's mission of increasing the number of women in political levels of government at the local, state and federal levels.

The premier five-day campaign intensive training program, based at Yale Law School, is the leading program attracting individuals from the United States and internationally. The school recently celebrated its 25th year at Yale Law School in 2019.

Russo is a former chair and commissioner of the CT Permanent Commission on the Status of Women, a position she held for twenty-five years.

She served as a leader for "Love Makes A Family," a state-wide nonprofit organization that worked for equal marriage rights for same sex couples in Connecticut. It was disbanded with an amazing party in 2009 after achieving its goal. The records of the organization are housed at Yale.

Russo also serves as an honorary member of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women. She holds a bachelor of arts degree from the George Washington University and a certificate in health care and nonprofit management from the Yale School of Management.

While an undergraduate student, Patricia served as an intern to U.S. Congresswoman Bella Abzug, who inspires her to this day.
