The stolen vehicle initially was discovered in New Britain where the occupants led police on a chase before officers broke it off.
DARIEN, CT — A Mercedes-Benz SUV reported stolen in Darien on Sunday was recovered in Hartford several hours later, according to Darien police. No arrests have been made, but before it was recovered, the vehicle was involved in a chase in New Britain before police in that community broke it off.
The unlocked 2020 GLS450 was stolen from a home on Wilson Ridge Road just after 3 a.m.; its keys had been left inside. A second vehicle at the same residence was burglarized but not stolen.
"Surveillance footage shows a sedan pull in front of the residence at [3:09 a.m.], and three male suspects exit," said Darien police in a statement. "The males check the three vehicles parked in the driveway, at which time one of the suspects finds the key to the Mercedes. The males leave for a short time, and return at [3:17 a.m.] at which time two of the males get into the Mercedes and drive it away."
