Connecticut Weather: Icy Conditions Today, Mix To Rain Sunday
We'll take a look at the latest forecast for Super Bowl Sunday and what you can expect if you're traveling for the big game.

The rain and snow is about to exit the state very soon but it will usher in a cold blast which could lead to icing concerns on roadways today, the National Weather Service cautions. As for Super Bowl Sunday, a light mix of rain and snow will develop in the early afternoon and turn to all rain Sunday evening but it could once again end as all snow for Monday's morning commute.
The National Weather Service has issued new Special Weather Statements, Hazardous Weather Outlooks, and a Winter Weather Advisory for different sections of the state. For southern Connecticut, a Special Weather Statement has been issued and the weather service says, "Icy conditions expected to develop this morning... An arctic front will sweep across the area early this morning with any lingering precipitation ending and temperatures dropping below the freezing mark. As such, there is a threat for icy conditions to develop during the morning commute, resulting in hazardous driving conditions."
For Hartford County, a Hazardous Weather Outlook is in effect as snow ends and the area was expecting 1-3 inches of snow. Tolland County is still under a Winter Weather Advisory until later this morning.

Concerning, Super Bowl Sunday, the weather service says for Hartford and Tolland counties that "Light snow Sunday should change to rain from south to north Sunday afternoon and Sunday night, but snow could persist across the interior. Winter weather headlines may be needed in later forecasts, especially across northern Connecticut and western and central Massachusetts."
WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons said "Improving weather, just watch your step with icy conditions out there. Some snow accumulation in the higher terrain. Sunshine midday with a cold wind & wind chill in the teens. Quiet tonight-tomorrow. More rain locally during the superbowl for your parties."
