Thursday, May 20, 2021 was a red-letter day for the Darien Blue Wave Boys Volleyball program. The Wave dismantled the Wreckers of Staples High School in three sets on Senior Night to finish their regular season with a perfect 17-0 record. This was the first undefeated regular season in the history of the DHS boys program. The Wave also extended their regular season winning streak to 36 games.

Darien is now the number one ranked team in the state with more wins than any other team. Joel Barlow High School in the smaller Class M conference ended their regular season with a 16-0 record. Darien is the smallest school in the largest conference, Class L.

The FCIAC playoffs begin Friday, May 21, but Darien gets a first round bye. The Wave will play the winner of the Stamford/Danbury game in the quarterfinal on Monday, May 24 at 4:00 p.m. on what is becoming known as Laurie LaRusso Court at Darien High School.

Darien beat Stamford (10-7) and Danbury (5-12) in three sets during the regular season. The Darien boys are capable of beating either team, but neither should be underestimated as both have improved over the course of the season. The Stamford Black Knights have won six of their last seven games and The Danbury Hatters have won two of their last three.

It has been a dream season for The Wave, but they are hopeful that the best is yet to come!
