Obituary: Cornelius Michael Quirk Jr.

Cornelius Michael Quirk Jr. passed away on September 2, 2020 at the age of 73. Known affectionally as “Corky,” he was born on March 9, 1947 into a large and loving Irish Catholic family. After graduating from Darien High School in 1965, he headed to Colgate University. He loved his four years as a Raider and member of the KDR fraternity. He would return for countless reunions to celebrate and reminisce with the rest of the Class of 1969. After college, he went to New York City to work for Hartford Insurance. He then went to reinsurance specialist Guy Carpenter. It was there that he spent his career, rising to Vice President. He even moved with the company to New Jersey after their office was destroyed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. He was a dedicated employee and well respected by his colleagues.
After retiring, he returned to the Upper East Side of NYC. He loved the bustle of the city, and always seemed to be meeting new people and forming new friendships. With his loving spirit and true kindness, people couldn’t help but gravitate towards him. He was also a golf enthusiast and lover of dessert. He enjoyed spending time with his family, even if he would occasionally crack a joke or two at their expense.
He certainly left us too soon and will be sorely missed. He is survived by his four siblings, including older sister Virginia Lake, younger brother Robert Quirk, younger sister Mary Ellen Quirk, and younger sister Jill Vernon, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Cornelius and Anne Quirk.
There will be a private service for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Colgate University.
